  • Date Arrived: 27 1300H August 2015
  • Date Departed: 27 1600H August 2015

  • Location: 139 25th St, Manila, Metro Manila

  • Observations: The Philippine Coast Guard is one of the main branches under the Department of Transportation and Communications, formerly it is under the Department of Defense but due to more strict and conservative duties in protecting the maritime seas and the territorial waters it is transferred to its present department. Sadly, due to some financial issues, or deficiencies and maybe misused, our proud uniformed men in service are being left compared to other coast guards of ASEAN countries and surely the world had already leave miles and miles away in terms of equipment and performances. But what the Philippine Coast Guard is greatly proud of, is its service to the Philippines. Philippines as an archipelago doesn't have any barriers against potential foreign attacks and foreign intervention, and because of the strong commitment of these men in water, those probable predicaments are likely to be lessen and somewhat be contained and stop.
      • My highest Salute to our Officers of the PCG, and highest respect to our PCG personnel!

  • Activities: The time we reach the north harbor of Manila, the one that captures our observant eyes is the tarpaulin hanging in the entrance of their building (see photos above), but that doesn't affect us and we continue the briefing with their very very warm welcome to us. They have started in introducing their officers and subsequently the team PMA also introduce themselves to PCG officers and personnel. Powerpoint presentation is also presented to us with the jam of the music "twerk it like miley" which greatly captures and extremely put our attention to its message. After a brief presentation and delicious merienda (see food picture above), we immediately headed to one of their ships in service (BRP San Juan). We toured around the ship, and because of its small size we partially divide the party for them to accommodate us and answer our questions.

  • Environmental Issues: Human Waste! One of the great concern in our environment are what we saw during our stay in the BRP San Juan! I know it is the one of the duties of the PCG, to protect the coastal areas, but if all of us will not pay attention to this major problems, there will be a time in our lives that all of this waste products and residues will return to us, maybe not now, not tomorrow, or the following years and centuries, we can't tell. Like what the quotation "prevention is better than cure" is implicating to us, it is better for us to stop polluting our marine waters or any other parts or bodies of water before it is too late. Surely if we disregard this possible situation to happen in the future, not only us will suffer, but also our next generations.

  • Problems: What remarkably alert us rather than the Human waste floating like a boss in the sea waters is the lack of equipment our highly respected men has. We all know that our country is in the age of modernization, most especially in the AFP, but the government must focused also on to this, same as the other branches of the DND. For this will determine the future move of our  Tanod Baybayin ng Pilipinas who promotes the motto of "Saving Lives".

  • Personal Impressions: Cars! Cars in their compound! HAHAHAHA! Many smuggled cars, (probably) are present in their neigbhorhood. Can we have one? a joke from one our mistah, put our bus to burst of laughter. The tour in the PCG area is a factor that contributes to our understanding of the reality and the present world. We must all take part in the maintenance and care of the environment, for this gift from Him is a key for our survival and learning in the world.
